My solo exhibition proposal was accepted at Artspace Gallery in Richmond, VA. The show will open Friday, January 28th in conjunction with 4th Friday and will run through February 18th. |
I'm still finalizing everything for the show, I will upload my sketches soon. I have a general direction and overall layout but I'm still working on the details.
I will have one large scale piece consisting of 55 small book forms individual cast in epoxy resin and mounted together on a 6hx3w panel. This piece will be similar to Archaic Inquiry: Serial Dilution except that is will be orientated vertically and much larger in scale.
I am also planning several groups of individual pieces that hang and are viewed as an installation unit, but can be sold separately. The first grouping of 24 pieces will be created from individual book forms cast in epoxy resin using 2 inch diameter mold. The units create in Archaic Inquiry: kənˈsentrik dəˈstôrSH(ə)n will be incorporated into this installation, except they will no long be mounted as one single unit, but rather individual pieces. Each form will be mounted to a 6"x6"panel, which will be arranged in 3 horizontal rows of 8 with 6" of space between each piece.
The 2nd installation grouping will be my dīˈsekSH(ə)n series. Each dissection sample will be mounted to a plexiglass panel which will stand about 3 inches from the frame in order to allow light to pass through the piece and highlight the dissected forms, much like viewing microscope sample. This grouping will consist of 28 dissected sections each mounted to a 6"x6" frame arranged in two horizontal rows of 14 with 6" of space between each piece.
Biopsy Recommended will consist of 4 to 5 piece. Each will be a dome structure (7" diameter / 6.5" height) mounted to a 12"x12" frame. The colors and level of distortion will be based on my individual experience with biopsy recommendations.
I have several other ideas for the rest of the space. These concepts are still in the prototype stage, but are related to my dissected inquiry process. The first prototype I have experimented with uses the process of dissecting cylinder along the horizontal axis making round disk forms (similar to what will be displaced in the dissected inquiry series). These pieces will not be displayed separately but rather stacked together to create a large sculpture as seen in Adaptation Prototype (reappropriation). I will also be dissecting the cylinder structure along the vertical access creating landscape like plates or rectangular structures (dissection core sample).
